Although this fabric can be washed, we suggest not doing so because it is extremely heavy, making the drying time very long (i.e., > 3 hours in high temperatures). Shrinkage of more than 15% in width and length will occur if washed.

Kapowsin was named after Kapowsin Lake, in Washington State, which was created during a "geologic event" (called the Electron Flow) on Mt. Rainier about the time Columbus was discovering America – the snow pack, rock, and dirt came crashing down the northwest corner of the mountain, filling valley areas and blocking creeks and rivers. Kapowsin, the fabric, is an extraordinarily soft yet strong and supple upholstery fabric. The fabric was produced by a Master of Linen. Its abrasion rating is 22,000 Martindale, making it suitable for upholstery in most residential situations.
Because the fabric is certified to the Oeko Tex 100 standard, you can rest assured that there are no synthetic chemicals that may harm you or your family. The mill is a certified ISO 9001 facility which is powered by natural gas. In addition, all water used by the mill is biologically treated before being returned to our groundwater, meeting COD values of less than 300 mg of oxygen/l, BOD of less than 25 mg oxygen/l, and pH values between 6.5 and 9. So whether it’s for storytime, naptime or cocktail time, count on Kapowsin to be a stress free fabric that’s easy to love.
