About

Salish is a 100% linen fabric produced by a Belgian "Master of Linen", a European designation which guarantees excellence. Its gutsy weight makes it suitable for many uses, from upholstery to drapery. Oeko-Tex 100 certified.

Eco Facts

We tested our fabrics, including Salish, for VOCs – the outgassing of nasty chemicals. Our results were very impressive, well below limits set by the USGBC (The US Green Building Council to allow fabrics to accrue LEED points for low emitting materials.

This test, a combination of gas chromatograph/mass spectrometry and high performance liquid chromatography, lasts for 24 hours. A piece of fabric is placed in a closed chamber. The chemicals out-gassed for the first 24 hours at a given temperature and pressure are extrapolated to predict the results for the equivalent of a room volume. Based on decay rates for various chemicals, the test predicts the results after 168 hours (the GreenGuard requirement). So based on those parameters, and the results you see below, Salish passed with flying colors (All of our fabrics passed with flying colors.)

The Fabric Name

This fabric is named after the Salish Sea, which is an intricate network of coastal waterways located between the southwestern tip of British Columbia and the northwestern tip of the state of Washington. It is one of the world's largest and biologically rich inland seas, with 37 species of mammals, 172 species of birds, 247 species of fish, and over 3000 species of invertebrates, of these, 113 are threatened or endangered. The name recognizes and pays tribute to the first inhabitants of the region, the Coast Salish.

Why choose us?

We've done the work for you

Over the years, Patty and Leigh Anne dedicated tons of time researching ethical and sustainable production—how it’s done, and what the implications are to us (and to all living things)  and to our planet.  They even put it in their mission statement, a goal “to change the way textiles are being made” – kind of a reach for such an upstart little company, right?
